Nagpur: A shocking issue has come out in Nagpur. Land that was kept for a cremation ground has been allegedly used for building houses.
Balya Borkar has said that out of 17.5 acres of land reserved for the Pardi cremation ground, about 16 acres were changed and given for residential projects. He blamed officials of Nagpur Smart City for this decision.
Pardi area has around 2.5 lakh people. The current cremation ground is very small. If more than two funerals happen at the same time, families have to wait. To fix this problem, a bigger land area was earlier reserved. But now, only about 1.5 acres are left.
This issue was found during a meeting led by Mayor Nita Thakre. During the meeting, the land changes were discussed.
Borkar got angry and said public land was wrongly given to builders. He said he will go to court and ask for a full investigation.
Mayor Nita Thakre has ordered an inquiry and asked officials to find a way to get the land back for the cremation ground.
This issue has raised serious questions about how city land is being used.
