A big moment happened on at the London Marathon. Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe finished the full marathon (42.195 km) in 1 hour 59 minutes 30 seconds. He became the first person to finish a marathon in under 2 hours.
Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha came second, just 11 seconds later, with a time of 1:59:41. This is the first time ever that two runners finished under 2 hours in the same race.
Sawe also broke the old world record, which was held by Kelvin Kiptum. Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo finished third. Sawe said he felt very happy and thanked the crowd for their support.
Women’s Race
Ethiopian runner Tigst Assefa won the women’s race in 2:15:41, making a new record. Sawe used energy gels and sports drinks during the race. These helped him stay strong till the end.
