New Delhi: Even though there is tension in the Middle East, the Indian government says there is no shortage of LPG, PNG, or CNG in the country. People have been asked not to believe any false news or rumors.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said India’s gas supply system is strong. Reports saying it will take 4–5 years to fix the supply are wrong. Around 8 lakh metric tonnes of LPG has already been ordered and is coming to India.
The government has told refineries to increase production from March 9. Efforts are also being made to produce more gas in India so that the country depends less on imports.
Still, LPG cylinder prices have increased because of pressure on the supply chain. This is affecting common people, hotels, restaurants, and small businesses.
Better Supply System
The number of LPG distributors has increased a lot—from 13,896 to 25,607. This helps in faster delivery. About 98% of bookings are now done online, and 93% of deliveries are tracked, making the system more clear and smooth.
States and Union Territories have been told to keep an eye on supply and take action against hoarding.
Priority for Important Services
Hospitals, schools, and important industries are getting LPG supply first. The government is also providing more small 5 kg cylinders for migrant workers.
People are being encouraged to use PNG where pipelines are available.
Why PNG is Useful
PNG gives continuous supply, is safe, and cheaper over time. But only about 12–13% of homes in India use PNG right now. The government plans to invest ₹5,000–6,000 crore to expand this network.
Earlier, most of India’s gas came through the Strait of Hormuz. But now imports from Gulf countries have reduced, so India is trying to get gas from different sources.
The government has clearly said there is no need to worry about LPG supply right now.
