New Delhi: India’s big victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 brought joy across the country, but in a few cities of Maharashtra the celebrations created problems.
Team India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final match at Narendra Modi Stadium. After the win, people came out on the streets to celebrate. However, some incidents were reported from Sangli, Pune, Akola and Amravati.
Fire Incident in Sangli
In the Miraj area of Sangli, many people gathered near Laxmi Market to celebrate India’s win. At first the celebration was calm, but later some youths started creating trouble. Police tried to control the crowd and finally used mild force to clear the area.
Another incident happened at Maruti Chowk in Sangli when sparks from firecrackers fell on dry leaves on a shop roof and started a small fire. Firefighters quickly reached the spot and controlled the fire, preventing bigger damage.
Clash Over Firecrackers in Akola
In the Hariharpeth area of Akola, an argument between two groups over bursting firecrackers turned into stone-pelting. Some cars were damaged during the clash. A few people and some police officers received minor injuries. Police later brought the situation under control and started action against those involved.
Chaos During Celebrations in Pune
On Fergusson College Road in Pune, many young people gathered to celebrate the victory. The large crowd and loud celebrations caused traffic problems. Police had to step in and disperse the crowd.
Risky Celebration in Amravati
In Rajkamal Chowk of Amravati, some youths were seen throwing firecrackers at each other while celebrating. Police quickly arrived and cleared the area to avoid any accident.
While a few places saw tension, many other cities celebrated India’s historic World Cup victory peacefully with music, dancing and fireworks.
