Nagpur: A case has been registered in Nagpur after a social media video allegedly made defamatory claims against Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and his family.
According to the FIR filed at Koradi Police Station, the complaint was lodged who works as a social media coordinator for the minister.
The complaint states that a man identified as Rameshwar Darekar, a resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, posted a video on Facebook through a page named “Dainik Buland Shakti.”
The video allegedly claimed that Minister Bawankule and his family own around 1,147 acres of land in different villages in the Kamthi area.
The video, which is about 22 minutes long, reportedly included charts and details about land in the names of the minister, his wife Jyoti Bawankule, and their daughter Payal Ashtankar.
According to the complaint, the video caused embarrassment and mental distress to the minister’s wife and daughter. It also said that relatives and acquaintances started calling them after watching the video, which made them feel uncomfortable and reluctant to step out of their home.
The FIR further claims that between March 31 and April 3, the accused repeatedly posted content and tracked the family on social media, collecting and sharing personal details with the intention of damaging their reputation.
Police Action
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, related to defamation and harassment.
The investigation is currently underway.
