New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee has faced a big defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Her party lost power after 15 years, and she also lost her own seat in Bhabanipur.
She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of winning unfairly. Banerjee said BJP workers attacked her supporters and even pushed her. She also said she complained many times to the Election Commission, but no action was taken.
In Bhabanipur, there was a close fight between Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari. After counting all votes, Adhikari won by 15,105 votes. He got 73,917 votes, while Banerjee got 58,812 votes.
Banerjee said BJP “stole votes” and claimed many seats were taken unfairly. She asked for votes to be counted again and said the election process was not fair.
In Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari also won by 9,665 votes against the Trinamool Congress candidate.
As per the latest results, BJP has won most seats and formed a strong lead. The Trinamool Congress won far fewer seats, while Congress and other parties got only a few.
Banerjee called the result “wrong” and said she will continue to fight against it.
