Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to all political parties to support Sunetra Pawar in the upcoming Baramati by-election and make it unopposed. He said such decisions have been taken earlier in Maharashtra as a sign of unity. However, the Congress party has decided to contest the election, and Sunetra Pawar has also contacted Uddhav Thackeray to seek Shiv Sena’s support.
Meanwhile, Fadnavis also expressed deep sorrow over a tragic accident in Nashik’s Dindori area, where nine members of the same family died after their car fell into a well on Friday night. The family was going to attend a private function when the speeding car lost control and fell into a water-filled well located in the middle of the road.
Fadnavis said Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan spoke to him directly from the spot. He called the incident very painful and unfortunate. He also pointed out that the well had only a small boundary wall, and a bigger wall could have saved lives.
The state government has announced financial help for the affected family and ordered an immediate check of such wells on roads to prevent similar accidents in the future.
