Mumbai: Birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being celebrated across India today with great respect and enthusiasm. People from different parts of the country are remembering the great warrior king and his vision of Swaraj (self-rule).
Shivaji Maharaj was born on 19 February 1630 at Shivneri Fort. His mother Jijabai taught him strong values and courage from childhood, while his father Shahaji Bhosale was known as a brave warrior. At a young age, Shivaji Maharaj began building the Maratha power and later became famous for his smart guerrilla war strategy. In 1674, he was crowned as ‘Chhatrapati’ at Raigad Fort.
On the occasion of Shiv Jayanti, many celebrities also paid tribute. Actor Riteish Deshmukh shared his wishes and said that Shivaji Maharaj continues to inspire people and give energy to the youth. He added that young generations should learn about the sacrifices made for the country and try to become better citizens.
Actress Urmila Matondkar remembered the great king by posting his picture on social media and paying her respects.
Television personality Shiv Thackeray also greeted fans and wished everyone on Shiv Jayanti through a social media message.
