New Delhi: Big Heatwave Warning in Maharashtra; Alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad Till May 18
Maharashtra is facing very hot weather, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned people to stay careful. Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar may face strong heatwave conditions from Friday till May 18. A yellow alert has been issued in these areas.
According to the IMD, Mumbai’s temperature may reach 36 degrees Celsius, while some areas in Thane may see temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius. Raigad and Thane are expected to face more heat on Friday and Saturday. After May 18, Thane may get light rain and thunderstorms, but Mumbai will mostly remain hot and dry.
The weather department has asked people not to go out in strong sunlight during the afternoon. People working outside should drink plenty of water and take breaks to avoid heatstroke.
Local officials have also started safety measures. Heatstroke help centres are being set up in some districts to help people during the hot weather.
In Nandurbar, temperatures had touched 45 degrees Celsius earlier this week. The temperature has now come down to around 41 degrees, but people are still feeling the heat because of dry weather. Many people are staying indoors unless they have important work.
Buldhana, once known for cool weather, is also facing high temperatures now. The city’s temperature has crossed 43 degrees Celsius. Experts say the rising heat is affecting people, animals and crops.
Farmers have been advised to work in the fields only in the morning or evening. People are also being told to cover their heads while going outside and avoid unnecessary travel during the hottest part of the day.
