New Delhi: After winning the Assam elections for the third time in a row, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave an interview and made strong claims about Congress.
He said that some Congress leaders are helping BJP. While speaking, he mentioned the film Dhurandhar and said, “Like in that movie, we also have strong people inside Congress.” He claimed that 30 Congress candidates had good relations with him and BJP, and 6 of them won the election.
When asked about this, Sarma said that some Congress leaders are friendly with BJP and even help them. He said BJP also works inside the “opposition camp.”
He clearly said these people are not spies. According to him, they stay in Congress because they may not win if they join BJP, but they still support BJP.
Talking about results, Sarma said that out of 19 Congress winners, 18 are Muslims. He claimed that Congress mainly gets support from Muslim voters in Assam and that many Hindu voters do not support Congress.
He also said that 6 Congress MLAs may vote for BJP in the next presidential election.
In the election, BJP and its alliance National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 102 out of 126 seats. BJP alone won 82 seats.
Congress has not given any reply to these claims yet.
